Duo Majoya

Marnie Giesbrecht and Joachim Segger are Duo Majoya. Their duo repertoire includes piano duets, organ duets, duets for organ and piano, and duets for organ and harpsichord. Concert programs are eclectic and innovative, spanning original and commissioned works to transcriptions and jazz; they usually combine solo and duo works and frequently include improvisation.

Regular performers in the Winspear Centre for Music in Edmonton and Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary, recent performances also include Los Angeles, California (American Guild of Organists Convention, 2004); Billings, Montana (AGO convention, 2005); London, Ontario (Royal Canadian College of Organists nation convention, 2005); Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris; St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna and numerous venues in Canada, US and Europe. Giesbrecht and Segger direct the music at First Presbyterian Church in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Duo Majoya's CD Skyscape was given 5 out of 5 stars by Rick Phillips on CBC Sound Advice in January, 2003. Skyscape is available from the Organ Historical Society in Richond, Virginia, USA and The Gramophone in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Commissioned works include Duet Suite for Organ: From the Musical Memoirs of a Canadian Organist by Jacobus Kloppers and works for organ and piano by Howard Bashaw, Denis Bédard and Jeffrey McCune. Joe Utterback, a well-known American jazz pianist and composer, heard Duo Majoya and wrote Jazz Suite for Organ and Piano for them.

The Canada Council commissioned Music for Organ and Piano (1996) by Howard Bashaw for Duo Majoya. It is recorded by Duo Majoya on the CD Bashaw.

Duo Majoya’s organ and piano recital at the American Guild of Organists’ Convention in Los Angeles, July 2004, received an immediate standing ovation and was hailed as “Sensational!!” by Guild President and Program Committee Chair, Fred Swann.

Other spring and summer 2004 concerts included a benefit recital for Hope Mission at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton, AB and a program for Organ a la Carte in Jack Singer Hall at the Epcor Centre for Music in Calgary, AB.

Summer 2005 for Duo Majoya included performances and workshops at the AGO Regional Convention in Billings, Monatana, the McGill International Organ Academy in Montreal, Quebec and the RCCO National Convention in London, Ontario.
